FBI releases UFO memo from 1950

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a memo on a widely talked about potential UFO sighting in Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947.

The original file, written by Guy Hottel--the head of the FBI’s Washington office at the time--was written on March 22, 1950. It was first released to the public in the late 1970s, and has now been posted on the FBI's vault website.

The original file states, “An investigator for the Air Force stated that three so-called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only 3 feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots.”
This week the FBI released a memo about the facts behind the potential UFO sighting.

The FBI states, “The Hottel memo does not prove the existence of UFOs; it is simply a second- or third-hand claim that we never investigated. Some people believe the memo repeats a hoax that was circulating at that time, but the Bureau’s files have no information to verify that theory.”
The file is the most popular document read on the FBI website. The file is only one page, and the FBI never even followed up on the event.

The Real Men in Black - Review

Most of us have seen the Men in Black movies, right? Those cool, hip guys carrying around weapons that must have been created by "Q" of James Bond fame. Wow! Wouldn't it be cool to be one of the Men in Black, saving the world for some secret Government organization? That is how I felt until I read The Real Men in Black. Yikes. If you think of the Men in Black as being like Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, think again, and be prepared to have the hairs on the back of your neck stand straight up.

I admit that before reading this book, most of what I knew about the Men in Black phenomena was from the movies. For whatever reason I never delved into the subject. I would occasionally read or hear a story that mentioned the Men in Black but I didn't give it a second thought. I always thought of them, if they existed, as being kind of like the Secret Service that guards the President. Man was I wrong.

Meet Nick Redfern, the author of "The Real Men in Black". Mr. Redfern is a full time author, lecturer and journalist. He writes for magazines and other publications such as UFO Magazine, Fate, Fortean Times and Paranormal Magazine. Nick has appeared on several TV programs like UFO Hunters, BBC's Out of This World, Monster Quest from the History Channel, Paranatural from the National Geographic channel and the SyFy channel’s Proof Positive. Nick knows his subject.

I hadn't heard of Mr. Redfern before reading this book, but I picked up his other books immediately when I finished “The Real Men in Black”. Some of his other titles include, The NASA Conspiracies, Contactees, and Memoirs of a Monster Hunter. I love Nick’s writing style. It reminds me of a detective from one of those great black and white movies from the 40?s and 50?s. Hard-boiled, to the point writing that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The one thing that stuck out for me early on in the book is that I trusted Nick and his research.

The book has many real life case studies, including the very first man to claim an encounter with the Men in Black, Albert Bender in 1945. It also includes some famous people giving their experiences and accounts. One such author, paranormal investigator extraordinaire is Brad Steiger, a personal hero of mine. You will find his stories in Chapter 4 and it is my favorite chapter.

And now a word of caution. If you are someone bothered by reading or hearing stories like this, then please don’t read this book. If things like this disturb you or give you nightmares, then maybe choose a different book. While this is a VERY interesting and fascinating read, it will also creep you out. I live in the mountains in a remote area near a forest. I can’t tell you how many times I think I have seen a shadow at the window or jumped when walking by a mirror because this book is still on my mind.

If the MIB ever do knock on my door though, I have some comfort in the knowing that the book tells you exactly what to do in that situation to get rid of them. You will want to read this book to know what to do before the MIB come calling on you.

You can get a feeling for the illustrations by looking at the cover picture of the book. They are wonderful and add so much to the stories within.

I recommend this book as a great read for the Halloween season, but really this is a great book for any time of the year if you enjoy scary tales that may be true, or not. You decide. You can’t go wrong with this one. Enjoy!

This is rare...not one but two glowing UFOs. Most the time over this area there are only one seen at a time. This is exactly what the old light looked like 3 decades ago in the same location. These lights in the Hessdalen sky of Norway were caught on live web cam. The lights have been seen for several decades. Hessdalen is a small valley in the central part of Norway. From 1981 to 1984 residents of this city became alarmed at the frequent and unexplained lights that appeared around the valley. These lights were observed hundreds of times. At the peak of activity there were 20 reports a week of these strange glowing lights in the sky. SCW .

These lights could be anywhere. Sometimes they were reported to be just above the roof of the houses, or just above the ground. Sometimes they could be high up in the air. Mostly the lights were reported to be below the tops of the mountains nearby. No one could give explanations for these lights. The lights appeared to have different specific forms. This showed up on the photos. It could have a form of a bullet, with the sharp end down. It could be round as a football. It could be as a "Christmas-tree" upside down. The colours were mostly white, or yellow-white. Sometimes it could have a small red light, usually on the top or bottom of the white. A few times it seemed to have all the colours; red, green, blue, yellow, at the same time. And sometimes, on the photos, we can see a blue light.The lights could be split in three groups:

- 1. Small and strong white or blue flashes, which could show up everywhere in the sky.

- 2. Yellow or yellow-white lights. These lights have very often been seen in the valley, just over the roof of the houses, or even down on the ground. They could be stationary for more than an hour, move slowly around in the valley, and sometimes show large accelerations and speeds. They could also be higher up in the sky. Mostly they moved on a north/south course.

- 3. Several lights together with a fixed distance from each other. Mostly it was two yellow or white lights with a red in front. Many people talked about "The object", when they saw this type of light. These lights could move slowly around the top of the mountains. The direction of "travelling" was mostly on a north/south course.

In the early history of research, I was getting good quality images of the objects, but more than a year, NASA provides the public images of very poor quality. People questioned NASA. NASA responded that these UFOs - a speck of dust on the lens, these UFOs - broken pixels on the sensor lens, these UFOs - meteorites, etc. Excuses, NASA was vast. But now, NASA is silent. People should know the truth!

Has The Russell Crowe UFO Mystery Been Solved?

A short video clip recently taken by actor Russell Crowe was uploaded to YouTube earlier this week and has many wondering if he might have recorded a UFO from his apartment overlooking a marina in Sydney, Australia.

Crowe tweeted, "A friend and I set camera to capture fruit bats rising from Botanic Gardens. This was a big surprise."

The big surprise wasn't bats but instead two mysterious, glowing red or yellow rodlike objects (or streaks), one above the other, moving in tandem from right to left in increments over the course of three photographs. The top image in the sky seems to be casting a light directly downward, though curiously the light does not seem to be reflected by any of the trees or leaves nearby.

Of course any time anyone connected with Hollywood or the entertainment business captures anything weird on video — whether it be a Bigfoot, a ghost, or a UFO — the suspicion often turns to a hoax created for publicity. Indeed, several videos in recent years have been revealed as computer-generated hoaxes. Sometimes the intent is to stir up publicity for an upcoming science-fiction film, though in one case last year a viral video of an eagle snatching a baby in a park turned out to be a student project for a Canadian art school. In this case, however, there seems little motivation for Crowe to hoax a UFO video; his new film, "Broken City," is about a crime drama, not aliens.



Though Crowe's UFO video is claimed to be a time-lapse video, it is not. A time-lapse video typically compresses an extended recording of an image (typically a static shot taken over the course of hours, days, or even weeks) into a few seconds or a few minutes. What Crowe allegedly recorded is closer to a timed exposure, which is a single photograph (or series of photos) taken over a long period of time. Timed exposures are often used in low light or at night, and are used to help pick up poorly lit images in the frame (such as the flying bats that Crowe was attempting to photograph).

However the same process that allows poorly lit images to be recorded also overcompensates for brightly lit objects, such as electric lights. This results in the well-known effect of light streaks of moving cars seen on nighttime highways, or photos of fireworks. Indeed this exact effect can be seen in Crowe's images, which appear large because they were taken with a telephoto lens.

One person has posted a fairly convincing analysis of the video, showing that the image is almost certainly a passing sailboat whose lights were accidentally captured by Crowe's camera. Perhaps the biggest clue that the UFO existed only in Crowe's camera (and not over Sydney, Australia's most populous city) is that no one else saw it or recorded it. Surely if such a brightly lit, mysterious object was hovering over Sydney's Botanical Gardens, it would have been seen by hundreds or thousands of other people — and likely recorded on at least a few smart phones.

Crowe, of course, isn't alone in his sighting. Several film stars, celebrities and politicians have reported seeing UFOs; President Jimmy Carter was said to have seen a UFO, as have Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan, Congressman Dennis Kucinich,John Lennon, and others.

Of course, as Crowe's photos show, all it takes to create a UFO sighting is to see or record something unidentified flying or floating in the sky — and not everything unidentified is unidentifiable.
