The World's Creepiest Places

101271509Did you know about Rhode Island's infamous "vampire county"? I didn't either. How about a rural Irish hall reportedly invested with demons? Nope. Or a Hungarian Castle where a twisted countess allegedly bathed in the blood of virgins to maintain her youth? Yikes! A hamlet in Kansas reputed to be the gateway to hell, or a Tibetan building so mysterious that Adolf Hitler dispatched underlings to investigate? This gets creepier and creepier.

If these snippets peaked your attention, this next book I am going to review will find a place on your library shelf, after you devour it from cover to cover. And believe me…the above descriptions are but a tiny sample of what is contained in The World's Creepiest Places and they aren't even the creepiest from the book!

The author, Dr. Bob Curran was born in a remote area of County Down, Northern Ireland, but left to travel and work in the United States., France, Italy, Mexico, North Africa, Spain, Holland, and parts of Eastern Europe. This has given him insight into the cultures and beliefs of people around the world. Living again in Northern Ireland, he holds several university degrees and acts as a consultant to such bodies as the Office of First, Deputy First Minister, and Tourism Ireland Ltd.

He is author of many popular books on folklore such as Vampires; Werewolves; Man-Made Monsters; and Lost Lands, Forgotten Realms (all published by New Page Books). He can be found musing on drbobcurran.blogspot.com.

curranDr. Curran has been just about everywhere from his native Ireland and through the empty deserts of the Middle East, to the misty hills of Tibet and back through Europe to America. He’s not only looking for ghosts, but also for sinister people, vampires, the living dead, doorways to other worlds – even venturing close to the Gates of Hell itself! Do you want to go along with him on his adventures? This book will take you with him, but be ready to be creeped out. If this type of book bothers you, then you may want to choose something else to read, because this book will get to you. You will think about some of these places long after you put the book down.

The book is full of fantastic illustrations done by artist Ian Daniels. They are worth the purchase of the book alone. Some of them are very beautiful, while others will send chills up and down your spine. Ok, most of them will send chills up and down your spine. You can get a feeling for the illustrations by looking at the cover picture of the book. They are wonderful and add so much to the stories within.

I recommend this book as a great read for the Halloween season, but really this is a great book for any time of the year if you enjoy scary tales that may be true, or not. You decide. You can’t go wrong with this one. Enjoy!

Get this book from Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. As of this writing there is no Kindle or Nook versions.
